Gold & Silver Price Adjustments and Bullion Market Trends

An analysis of recent price surges in Bangladesh's precious metals market, driven by foreign exchange movements and global market shifts.

The domestic precious metals market in Bangladesh has recorded significant upward price revisions, reflecting international bullion market strength and local exchange rate dynamics. The Bangladesh Jewelers Association has updated official pricing charts, pushing high-purity gold to record territory across local markets. The benchmark 22-carat gold per bhori, which equals 11.664 grams, has risen to 247,743 BDT, representing a notable increase from previous trading levels. Lower carat categories experienced matching upward adjustments, with 21-carat gold rising to 236,604 BDT per bhori, 18-carat gold climbing to 203,187 BDT per bhori, and traditional category gold reaching 165,920 BDT per bhori.

In tandem with gold, the domestic silver market has maintained firm pricing structures across all purity grades. High-grade 22-carat silver is currently priced at 5,482 BDT per bhori, while 21-carat silver stands at 5,249 BDT per bhori, 18-carat silver at 4,491 BDT per bhori, and traditional silver at 3,383 BDT per bhori. Market analysts attribute these bullion price adjustments to a combination of rising global spot gold prices, foreign currency conversion costs, and local demand during the peak festival and wedding seasons. Jewelry retailers note that consumer purchasing patterns are shifting, with buyers increasingly weighing total fabrication charges and VAT against pure metal weight value.

For retail investors and individual asset allocators viewing precious metals as an inflation hedge, physical bullion and high-purity gold remain attractive store-of-value assets. Financial advisors recommend that buyers factor in retail making charges, which typically range between 6 percent and 10 percent above base metal rates, when evaluating short-term liquidity versus long-term capital preservation. As central bank monetary policies globally influence precious metal benchmarks, domestic bullion pricing will continue to serve as a key barometer for alternative physical asset investments in Bangladesh.
