Bangladesh's Gold Rally Extends to a Second Day, Clawing Back Half of October's Slide

Gold in Bangladesh rose for a second straight day on Thursday, with 22 carat gold now priced at Tk224,707 a bhori according to Bajus. The back to back increases follow four consecutive cuts earlier in October that had pulled the price down sharply. Jewellers say the reversal tracks a rise in the local price of refined gold, and buyers planning wedding season purchases should expect more movement before the price settles.

Gold in Bangladesh just booked its second straight daily increase, and the move has clawed back more than half of what the metal lost during October's run of cuts. The Bangladesh Jewellers Association, known as Bajus, set 22 carat gold at Tk224,707 a bhori on Thursday, up Tk1,633 from Wednesday's price, itself a Tk2,216 jump from the price that had stood since a string of cuts earlier in the month.

  • 22 carat gold now costs Tk224,707 a bhori, up Tk1,633 in a day and Tk3,849 over two days.
  • The rebound follows four consecutive cuts on 13, 22, 23 and 25 October that had pulled the price down by Tk10,439 in total.
  • Bajus attributes both recent increases to a rise in the local price of refined, or tejabi, gold.
  • Even after two days of gains, the 22 carat rate remains below the levels seen earlier in 2026.

For a market that had spent most of October heading one direction, two increases back to back is enough to change the conversation among jewellers and buyers alike, even if the price is still some distance from its highs for the year.

What actually changed this week

Bajus revises its rates based on the domestic price of refined gold, which in turn tracks a mix of the international bullion price and the dollar exchange rate, since Bangladesh imports virtually all the gold its jewellery trade uses. After a quiet stretch of cuts that took the 22 carat rate down to Tk220,858 by 25 October, the price turned higher on 28 October with a Tk2,216 increase to Tk223,074, and then rose again on 29 October by Tk1,633 to the current Tk224,707. That is two increases in three sessions, a sharper reversal than most of the single day bounces the market saw earlier in the year.

Prices for the other grades moved in step. 21 carat gold now stands at roughly Tk214,618 a bhori, 18 carat at about Tk184,291, and traditional gold, the lowest purity sold in ornament form, at around Tk150,582. A bhori equals 11.664 grams, the standard unit jewellers across Bangladesh use for pricing.

Why the swings keep happening

Bajus has adjusted gold prices more than a hundred times so far in 2026, roughly split between increases and cuts, which gives a sense of how often the domestic market resets to follow global bullion moves and the taka's exchange rate. Each adjustment is announced by press release and takes effect from a set hour, usually 10am, at every jewellery outlet in the country simultaneously. The announced price already includes 5 percent VAT, so what changes week to week is the base metal price, not the tax treatment.

What is different about this particular bounce is the context it arrives in. The four cuts in the first three weeks of October had briefly made gold noticeably cheaper than it had been earlier in the year, prompting some buyers to bring forward wedding season and festival purchases. The reversal over the past two sessions has erased a large part of that window.

What it means for you

If you are planning a wedding purchase or any other ornament buy this season, the practical takeaway is that the recent dip was real but has already shrunk by more than half, and Bajus's own pattern this year suggests further moves, in either direction, are likely before the price settles for any length of time. Buyers should also remember that the quoted Bajus rate is the metal price only; making charges, which vary by design and by shop, are added on top and are not fixed by the association. The 5 percent VAT is already built into the quoted price and jewellers are not permitted to charge it again separately.

For anyone holding gold as a store of value alongside bank deposits, it is worth comparing how a given amount would have performed against a simple fixed deposit over the same stretch; the FDR and DPS calculator makes that comparison quick, and the site's own gold price tracker carries the latest Bajus rate as it updates through the week.

Bangladesh's Gold Price Drops Tk7,114 in Two Days to Tk217,592 a Bhori

Gold in Bangladesh's bullion market fell for a second straight session on Saturday, with BAJUS cutting the 22-carat rate by Tk5,481 a bhori just a day after an initial Tk1,633 cut. The back-to-back reductions have erased Tk7,114 from the 22-carat price in 48 hours, pulling it down to Tk217,592. Jewellers say a falling local price for raw gold, not a broad shift in international rates, is driving the latest move. The swings cap an unusually volatile October for the metal.

Bangladesh's Gold Rally Snaps as BAJUS Cuts Rates by Tk1,633 a Bhori

Bangladesh's jewellers cut the price of 22-carat gold by Tk1,633 a bhori on Friday, pulling the rate back to Tk223,074 after two days of gains. The move tracks a slide in international gold prices to their lowest level since mid July, as traders bet on a stronger US economy and interest rates staying higher for longer. Silver prices were trimmed too. For Bangladeshi buyers, the swings mean this is a bad week to assume any single day's price will hold.
